VERNON LEROY GARMAN

August 2, 1922 – April 12, 2024

ELKHART- Vernon Leroy Garman, 101, of Elkhart, passed away Friday April 12, 2024, at his residence in Elkhart.  He was born August 2, 1922, in Elkhart, Indiana to John Earl & Myrtle Goldie (Martin) Garman.

     He married Emogene R. Marvel on February 11, 1947.  She preceded him in death on July 27, 2022.  Surviving is a daughter, Kay (David) King of Elkhart, IN, a son, Timothy (Dawn) Garman of Cassopolis, MI ; 3 grandchildren, Kristi (Chris) Ickes of Nappanee, IN, Kimberly (Brett) Griffith of Holiday, FL, Benjamin (Dakota) Garman, M.D. of Granger, IN and 6 great-grandchildren, Nicholas Griffith, Alex Griffith, Kaylyn King, Riley King, Henry Garman and Cora Garman.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Emogene and 4 siblings, George Garman, Jack Garman, Dave Garman, and Kate (Garman) Thalheimer.

     Vernon served in the Army-Air Corps during W.W.II from 1942-1945 and was honorably discharged.  He was a life member of the VFW and on March 1, 2024, he received the Quilt of Honor at the Mishawaka VA Clinic.

He wintered for 18 years in Sebring, Florida and was a member of the 25-year club at NIBCO.  Vernon retired in 1984 from NIBCO where he worked in the shipping and receiving department as a clerk for 44 years.

     Graveside services for Vernon will be held at Prairie Street Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024.  Pastor Bob Kulp from Grace Brethren Church in Elkhart will render the service and full military will be rendered.

     A procession will start to form at Waterman-Westbrook-Clouse Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
