Sara G. Gamez
March 5, 1943 – June 13, 2025
Sara G. Gamez, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and a pillar of her community, was called to rest on June 13, 2025, at the age of 82. At the time she was surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 5, 1943, Sara moved to South Bend, Indiana, in 1974 with her late husband, Victor Gamez, and their children. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and hard work.
Sara is survived by her ten children: Victor Gamez Jr., Letty Gamez, Norma Gamez, Domingo (Rebecca) Gamez, Nora (Enrique) Trejo, Maria (Juan) Trujillo, Ramiro Gamez, Melva Gamez, Jimmy (Jennifer) Gamez, and Nancy (Noel) Suarez. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor, her son Javier Gamez, and grandsons Ramiro Gamez Jr., Vito Hernandez and Victor Gamez IV.
A dedicated worker, Sara retired from Dexter Axle in Elkhart, IN, after 25 years of service. Never one to slow down, she went on to become a successful businesswoman and a respected partner in her community.
Sara was known for her generosity and unwavering willingness to help anyone in need. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she was an active member of her church until illness prevented her participation. She found joy in dancing, laughing, singing, cooking, and spending time with her large and loving family.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in her 29 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Sara Gamez will be remembered for her warmth, resilience, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday June 19, 2025, at Zimmerman-Clouse Funeral Home (formerly Waterman-Westbrook-Clouse) 1129 S. Prairie Street, Elkhart, IN. Additional visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday June 20, 2025, in the Vincent Hall at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will start at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church.
Fr. Sam Anderson will render the Mass, and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.
