Loretta Simmons Obituary

ELKHART-Loretta Pearl Simmons, 92, passed away Friday June 7, 2019 at Hubbard Hill Estates. She was born August 3, 1926 in Hopedale, IL to the late Albert & Agnes (Zehr) Zehr. On November 4, 1954 in Elkhart she married Gene Simmons; he preceded her in death on October 9, 1999.

Surviving is 1 son, Brian (Bonnie) Simmons of Leesville, SC, 4 grandchildren, Jared (Mary Claire) Simmons of Marietta, GA, Andrew (Stefanie) Simmons of Laurel, MD, Lindi (Matthew) Wilson of Edwardsville, IL and Aubrey (Zachary) Fisk, Winston Salem, NC. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren and 1 sister, Marcella Zehr of Flanagan, IL.

Loretta received degrees from Goshen College and IUSB and was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkhart and Christian Lights Sunday School Class. She retired after 38 years of service as a teacher with the Elkhart Community School Systems. From 1987-2005 she continued teaching as a substitute teacher.

Visitation will be held (1) hour prior to the 4:00p.m. Tuesday June 11, 2019 funeral service at First Baptist Church of Elkhart. Rev. Phil Byars will preside and burial will be private at a later date in Prairie Street Cemetery.
