ELKHART - Jean LaRee (Wadsack) McKinney, 84, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, March 21, at Elkhart General Hospital surrounded by family.
She was born July 2, 1931, at home in Oswego, Kan., to Harold and Mildred (Beeman) Wadsack.
On Dec. 28, 1950, she was married to Charles H. McKinney at the First Baptist Church in Oswego. He survives along with seven children, Lance McKinney and Amanda McKinney of Osceola, Brad McKinney of Bristol, Brenda Stiver and Dave Stiver of Kimmel, Nancy Toben and Mike Toben of Owasso, Okla., Kris McKinney and Christopher Abbuehl of Lawrence, Kan., Lyn McKinney of Pittsburg, Kan., and Kent McKinney and Janet Martin McKinney of Kerrville, Texas. There are 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Jean graduated in 1948 from Oswego High School and in 1950 Labette County Community College, where she was the queen of the football homecoming. She was a devoted mother and homemaker who enjoyed several hobbies through her life, most notably making porcelain dolls and playing bridge. After she retired from cooking, there were several years spent seeing the country in a motor home.
She had been a member of Beulah Missionary Church in Goshen.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Hubbard Hill Estates, 28070 C.R. 24, Elkhart.
