ELKHART-Helen J. Turk 96, fought a long hard battle of Alzheimer's until it took her life August 26, 2016 at her home in Elkhart with her son by her side. She was born January 25, 1920 in Elkhart to late Anthony & Mary Strukel. Helen married Albert J. Steven and he was killed in the Army in 1944. She then married Nicholas Turk who passed in 1978. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers Robert and Louis.
Surviving is her son Craig A. (Linda) Steven and her daughter Malinda of Elkhart, 2 grandchildren Peg Shrock of Elkhart and James Stevens of South Bend. Also surviving is a brother Skip (Judy) Strukel, sister-in-laws Wanda (Jim) Rowe all of Elkhart and Shirley Supancik of Goshen, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Helen graduated from Elkhart Central High School and worked at CTS for over 40 years until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in the Rosary Society and made crafts for the church as well.
Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Father Matthew Coonan will preside and burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Marie and Gary with Harbor Light Hospice for their help and great care of Helen. Memorial contributions may be given to Harbor Light Hospice of Mishawaka. Waterman Westbrook Clouse Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
