ELKHART- Harry G. Griffey, 83, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday September 5, 2017 at Hubbard Hill Estates. He was born April 7, 1934 in Follansbee, West Virginia to the late Patrick & Edith Bartley.
He married Barbara Campbell on February 14, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio, she is survived at home. Survivors also include a daughter, Rebecca (Arthur) Hershey of Forrest, Ohio; 3 sons, Scott (Kim) Griffey of Elkhart, Bruce Griffey of Fort Wayne, IN, and Brian (Sara) Griffey of Fishers, IN; 13 grandchildren, 30 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Raymond Bartley of Illinois. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Bartley and a sister, Helen Dreier.
Harry worked in management at K-Mart in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan he retired in 1996 after 33 years of service. He was a heart transplant patient having received a new heart in July of 2001. Harry was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bristol, IN and participated in the Christian Lights Sunday School class at the First Baptist Church. Harry also served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Services for Harry will be Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 12 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bristol with a visitation prior to the service from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery at 4 p.m. where military honors will be rendered. Waterman-Westbrook-Clouse Funeral Home is entrusted with his care.
